MIRFIELD TEAM PARISH PROJECT AT ST PAUL’S

ADAPTING FOR THE COMMUNITY…….

DEVELOPING FOR THE FUTURE.

OPEN WEEKEND

The open days held at St Paul’s on the last weekend of August when the future proposed development plans were on display and provided an opportunity to work together as a team parish, was a great success. Thank you to everyone who contributed by giving, visiting or helping to making it a happy and worthwhile day.

There weren’t any individual church stalls; everything that was made and donated was combined with similar items to provide a selection of stalls that were looked after by willing volunteers. Thanks to you proceeds from the weekend amounted just over £1100, but more importantly we are grateful for the fact that you came along and shared together as friends.

We have been delighted to have heard this week that the Archdeacon is allowing the St Paul’s project to continue during the interregnum and at the meeting of the PCC on the 8th September it was unanimously agreed to move forward with our planning applications and to source the necessary funding.

At this point in time there have been no objections or dissenting voices to the proposed plans, but the plans remain on view and available for scrutiny until the 30th September 2008.

WRAP AROUND SCHOOL PROJECT

The before and after school project is now off and running.

We are very fortunate to have the support and good will of Sharon the Manager and co-owner of Pied Piper Children’s Centre in Mirfield who has generously seconded a member of her staff to Eastthorpe Wrap to set up and get the project running, which gives us time to find a suitable permanent manager

Amy is very experienced in before and after school care and her time at Eastthorpe Wrap will be part of her preparations toward moving on to manage the opening of Pied Piper’s new out of school club at Roberttown at the end of the year; but until then we are delighted she is with us and grateful for her knowledge and expertise.

To work with Amy we are employing Kim as a playworker; Kim lives at Pinfold and together with Amy has helped transform the rooms at St Paul’s and make them into exciting and adventurous places to be.

Since opening on the 1st September Amy and Kim have steadily increased the number of children in their care, have already planned an out of school club for the October break and are optimistic that the 16 place provision will be ‘full’ by Christmas.

EASTTHORPE WRAP

Eastthorpe Wrap Ltd is now the official trading name of the before and after school project, which is sited at St Paul’s church; it was proposed, approved and accepted at the PCC meeting on the 8th September and has been registered at Companies House.

This means very simply that the out of school project is a Company Limited by Guarantee and will run as a business managed by an independent committee made up of PCC members and a representative from the Community. There is an appointed Managing Director, Company Secretary and 3 named Directors representing the team parish, all of whom have been involved in working closely with the setting up of the project.

Please continue to pray for all that is happening in the team parish as we move forward in faith together.
